About us

We’re a charity in Salford, Trafford and North Manchester who provide information, support and social activities for people suffering from acquired brain injuries. We also support carers, family and friends. We offer the chance to share experiences knowing that the group members understand some of the problems and difficulties that acquired brain injury brings.

We provide a day-centre service every Thursday from 10am until 3pm. We also provide activities for our members in the community, in and around Salford and Greater Manchester. The group meets on a Thursday at Salford Salvation Army, 80 Eccles New Rd, M5 4DU.

 

Job description

Job Title: Support Assistant for Headway Salford Trafford & North Manchester
Pay scale: National minimum wage

Part time hours/ Contract: 6 – 10 hours per week, flexible (must be able to work on Thursdays for 5 hours at our day-centre session)
Contract type: Employed – 12-month fixed term post (3-month probation)
Pension: 3%
Sick pay: Statutory

The Role:

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to assist our members, all of whom live with a brain injury. Helping our members get the most out of our group activities both within the Thursday day-centre as well as out in the community during the week.

You will join a team of committed and passionate individuals offering support, advice, and education to brain injury survivors and their families.

You will help our Development Worker to organise activities and support group members to take part in the fun activities that aid their rehabilitation whilst also providing positive wellbeing outcomes.

You will work from our base on a Thursday (10am – 3pm) at Salford Salvation Army, 80 Eccles New Rd, M5 4DU. Then provide a flexible approach to working in the community with our members to provide one other session during the week (TBC).

The ideal candidate will have a background of working with people with a brain injury or other disability. However, this is not essential as full training will be given.

You will need to be able to work individually, using your own initiative but also within the existing team.

Being well organised as well as an excellent communicator is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Development Worker (who will be your direct line manager)
  • To support the members and their families at the weekly day centre, support and facilitate activities.
  • To represent Headway Salford & North Manchester in any partnership developments, as directed by the Trustees.
  • To carry out any other tasks as directed by the Trustees to further the work of Headway.
  • Work closely with volunteers to ensure service provision is safe, dynamic, and reliable.
